El Questro Resort - Gibb River Road
EL QUESTRO RESORT – GIBB RIVER
ROAD, KIMBERLEY WA, CLIENT: GPT, 2008
A million acres in size, El Questro is located
100kms west of Kununurra on the eastern perimeter
of the Kimberley region in far North Western Australia.
Fifteen years after building the original homestead
at El Questro our Company was approached by the
GPT Group on the 18th of December 2007 with a
project to renovate The Homestead.
On the 22nd of December 2007 Ri-con’s cost
proposal was accepted. From the outset this was
an extremely challenging Project. We had committed
to undertake a full renovation over the wet season
with no extension of time due to The Resort reopening
on the 1 April 2008. We were working with a program
of only 11 weeks to completion.
This Project tested all the Company’s systems
and personnel. The Gibb River was closed for six
of the eleven weeks and all food and material
had to be flown in (plane and, more commonly,
helicopter). An example of just one of the challenges
was the transportation and installation of three
stone baths (each weighing over half a tonne)
from Sydney to the work site.
Scope of work:
- Fully renovate the Chamberlain Suite, 2 adjoining
6-star rated suites, and an additional 4 suites
- All joinery constructed out of solid timber
- All bath rooms fully tiled top to bottom with
imported tiles
- 3 stone baths installed on the verandas
- All vanity tops were imported stone
- Replacement of 50 per cent of aluminum, sliding
doors with timber doors
- Re-line the Chamberlain Suite and the adjoining
2 suites with acoustic rated wall & ceiling
linings
- New bar in the Dining Room
- Repainting the entire Homestead internal and
external
- Cladding all exposed timber in the dining
room with new solid timber panels.
We are proud to say the project was completed
three days ahead of schedule. The project provides
an example of the flexibility for which we are
renowned.
Summary:
Duration: 11 weeks
