Environmental Management
As Ri-con Contractors
regularly works in the environmentally-sensitive
remote regions of Australia, recognition of the
effects of its work on the environment is uppermost
in the minds of management and staff.
Accordingly, the Company’s activities are
planned and conducted to minimise and, where possible,
avoid adverse effects on the natural environment,
thereby protecting it for future generations.
To this end the Company commits to complying
with the relevant environmental legislation of
the States within which it works and educates
staff and contractors on environmental issues
and the effect their work has on the environment.
This environmental commitment is demonstrated
by:
- The inclusion of environmental aspects in
planning processes
- Consideration of the environmental outcomes
of our work in the same way as quality, cost
and
safety are considered
- Protection of the natural environment, preservation
of biodiversity, prevention of pollution, and
minimisation of waste
- Monitoring and reviewing environmental performance
at all levels of management, and
promotion of environmental awareness
to clients, staff, subcontractors and other
stakeholders.
These commitments have been demonstrated in the
Company’s work on the islands within the
Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Ri-con has been
required to operate within tight licence conditions
and to challenging project schedules.
In summary, Ri-con Contractors will work closely
with its clients, relevant authorities, and other
interest groups to continue its commitment to
sustainable design and environmentally aware methods
of construction.
