Help Close the Gap on Indigenous Literacy

Ri-Con has always built very strong relationships with the indigenous communities we’ve worked with. Our company has created a culture that not only strives to improve the lives of people through improved housing standards; but we believe we have also helped to improve the lives of locals through genuine efforts to employ and train local indigenous workers.

Last year, we worked with regional community and employment training agencies to develop a pre-employment program designed to provide long term employment opportunities for local indigenous workers. All participants have completed literacy, numeracy and aptitude assessments including drug and alcohol support.

We are now expanding our efforts to bridge the Indigenous literacy gap.

For every five kids living in remote Indigenous communities, only one will be able to read at the minimum standard.

Ri-con is working with the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF), an organisation working with Indigenous communities and schools around Australia with the aim that 5 out of 5 kids will learn to read - the vital first step to a satisfying and successful life.

We will help Indigenous kids in remote communities to write their own future in 2012. Show you care about Indigenous Literacy and visit Ri-con’s Wall of Hands page at https://wallofhands.com.au/Wall/View/1090.

See our next newsletter for the details on our latest exciting Literacy and Numeracy program which kicks off in February 2012.
