Kalumburu
KALUMBURU WA, CLIENT: DHW WA, 2007
Ri-con Contractors was required to construct seven
single detached houses and three pairs of duplex
units in the Kalumburu community, a modern aboriginal
community entirely run by the Kalumburu Aboriginal
Corporation.
Kulumburu is located in far northern Western
Australia, over 500kms northwest of Kununurra.
Purchasing and logistical issues were the main
challenges in this Project as all goods and materials
had to be transported by barge from Darwin. The
Company's builder’s camp for employees and
contractors was capable of being set up and dismantled
in a single day and was 100% self sufficient,
incorporating a kitchen, ablution block, office,
dry store, accommodation, generators and water
bladders.
